Full Title: High-Pressure Fluids Test Operations Engineer
Department: Engineering
Role Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt; On-Site
Compensation: $110,000-150,000 Salary
Location: Alameda, CA
Who are we?
Longshot Space Technologies is at the cutting edge of low-cost space access and hypersonics. We are developing a novel space launch system that accelerates mass over a long distance. Using our technology, we plan to provide affordable launch services for satellites, cargo, and future space infrastructure. We aim to enable a future where humans can reach for the stars.
Position Overview
We are hiring a High-Pressure Fluids Test Operations Engineer to support and execute critical testing for our space launch systems. You will be responsible for planning, operating, and troubleshooting high-pressure light gas systems, executing projectile tests, and ensuring safe and efficient operations during test campaigns. This role is ideal for a hands-on, systems-oriented engineer excited by direct interaction with hardware. You will support test design, gas system layout, hydrogen safety planning, and data collection—while collaborating with mechanical, fluids, and simulation engineers to validate and iterate designs.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and execute high-pressure gas operations including hydrogen handling and safety.
• Operate and maintain fluid systems for projectile, test stand, and launcher testing.
• Support the design and build of gas systems, test fixtures, and instrumentation.
• Collaborate on payload user guide development and testing protocols.
• Integrate instrumentation into projectile and test articles.
• Correlate simulation data with test results to validate models and tune designs.
• Maintain logs, test plans, and safety documentation for all operations.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering preferred.
• 2–5 years experience in a hands-on test, operations, or R&D setting.
• Experience with high-pressure gas/fluid systems in excess of 500 psi in large volumes (hydrogen a strong plus).
• Familiarity with instrumentation, DAQ systems, and sensor calibration.
• Exposure to hydrogen safety, rocket test, or propulsion lab environments a bonus.
• Strong organizational and executional skills, including documentation and planning.
• Passion for learning, problem solving, and working as part of a fast-moving team.
What You’ll Gain
• Work on challenging, real-world engineering problems at the frontier of space technology.
• Mentorship from experienced engineers and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility.
• A role in building and testing hardware with real-world impact.
• A dynamic startup environment with room for growth and innovation
