Research Scientist 2 Full Time

The New Jersey Department of Health is expanding its team within the Office of Primary Care & Rural Health (OPCRH) in the Division of Health Promotion. OPCRH is seeking a Research Scientist 2 to support data-driven planning, evaluation, and reporting of activities across multiple initiatives, specifically the Rural Health Transformation Plan. The Research Scientist 2 will use cutting edge technologies to develop and manage data collection tools, surveys, and evaluation instruments to support program monitoring, evaluation, and federal reporting requirements for the Rural Health Transformation Plan and other grant-funded activities. The position will conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of program and sub-grantee data and prepare clear, accurate, and actionable reports with findings and recommendations. The Research Scientist 2 will utilize advanced analytic and data visualization tools such as SAS, ArcGIS, Tableau, Power BI, or R Shiny and will research and recommend additional software to enhance program operations and maintain required software licenses.

This position will play a key role in analyzing and preparing Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) designation applications, as well as conducting workforce assessments to inform strategies addressing provider shortages in rural and underserved communities. This role will also contribute to the development of data-driven proposals and strategies to recruit and retain health care providers in high-need areas.

This role will also involve learning and supporting all areas of OPCRH.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of full-time experience in a field appropriate to the position.

NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
