About Engel & Engel
Established in Los Angeles in 1994, Engel & Engel LLP is one of California’s top forensic accounting firms, with more than 30 years of experience supporting plaintiffs and defendants in complex business litigation across California and nationwide. Our work has supported billions of dollars in court awards and defenses, including a $2.3 billion jury award. In 2025, founding partner Jason Engel was named to Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Top CPAs in Valuations.
We work with leading private practice law firms and the in-house counsel of Fortune 500 and middle-market companies. Our practice spans:
• Economic damages and lost profits
• Fraud investigations
• Business valuation
• Bankruptcy, insolvency, and fraudulent transfers
• Alter ego analysis
• Partnership disputes
• Intellectual property litigation
• Employment litigation
• Real estate and construction litigation
• Business interruption
• Personal injury damages
• Accounting malpractice
• Trust and probate litigation
• Defamation matters
Our full service offering includes traditional forensic accounting and expert witness testimony, internal investigations that can stand alone or serve as the foundation for litigation, and a distinctive Joint Retention Program in which we are engaged by both parties to resolve disputed financial issues efficiently.
Our team holds the credentials that matter in this practice (CPA, CFE, CIRA, CVA, MAFF, and ABV), and we are members of the AICPA, CalCPA, ACFE, AIRA, and NACVA.
As a boutique firm, our professionals work directly on the substantive issues that drive cases. We are small enough that every team member gets real ownership and direct access to the partners signing off on the work, and established enough to handle the highest stakes matters in the market.
About the Role
We are hiring a Manager to lead forensic accounting engagements from start to finish. This is a senior individual contributor and people-leader role. You will own the day-to-day execution and quality of multiple matters at once, supervise staff and senior accountants, and work directly with the testifying expert as a key day-to-day contact for client counsel on your engagements.
This role is right for an experienced forensic accountant who is ready to own engagements end to end. You may already be a Manager at another firm looking for boutique scope and direct partner access, or a strong Senior ready to step up into ownership. Either way, you will run engagements, develop junior staff, defend workpapers, and support the testifying expert through deposition and trial. You will work directly with the firm’s partners on substantive, high-stakes matters, with clear visibility to firm leadership and a defined path to Senior Manager.
What You’ll Do
Engagement Leadership
• Lead forensic accounting engagements end-to-end across our practice areas, from initial scoping through final report and, where applicable, deposition and trial support
• Build and review economic damage models, business valuations, solvency analyses, and fraud investigation workpapers
• Draft and quality-review expert reports, declarations, and trial exhibits
• Serve as a key day-to-day contact for client counsel on assigned matters, working closely with the testifying expert
• Manage engagement budgets, timelines, and staffing to ensure profitable, on-time delivery
Team & Quality Leadership
• Directly supervise staff and senior accountants assigned to your engagements; review and sign off on their work product
• Develop junior team members through structured feedback, mentorship, and technical coaching
• Own quality control across your engagements, including workpaper integrity, methodology defensibility, and consistency of conclusions
• Identify and document case-handling improvements that strengthen the firm’s overall practice
Practice Support
• Conduct industry and financial research to support case strategy and expert opinions
• Contribute to proposals, scoping calls, and early client interactions alongside partners and testifying experts
• Support internal investigations and Joint Retention Program engagements as needed
• Help shape the firm’s internal processes, training, and technical standards as we continue to grow
Required Qualifications
• Active CPA license (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 5-8 years of forensic accounting experience at a public accounting firm, litigation consulting firm, or comparable setting
• Demonstrated leadership experience supervising and developing staff and/or senior accountants on forensic engagements
• Hands-on technical experience preparing economic damage models, business valuations, solvency analyses, and/or fraud investigations
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to translate complex financial analysis into clear narrative for attorneys, judges, and juries
• Advanced Excel skills; strong Word and PowerPoint; comfort with data extraction and analysis from large document productions
• Work authorization in the United States. No visa sponsorship available for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
• Additional credentials beyond CPA: CFE, CIRA, CVA, MAFF, ABV, or similar
• Experience supporting testifying experts through deposition and trial
• Experience across multiple practice areas, particularly economic damages, fraud investigations, business valuation, and real estate or construction matters
