Safety Director Full Time

An established, privately held hazardous material tanker company in metro Atlanta is conducting a confidential search for a Director of Safety and Compliance. The company has been hauling hazmat products across the Southeast for more than 25 years, operates a petroleum transport fleet 24/7/365, and is privately owned and operated.

This is a newly created senior-level seat. The Director of Safety and Compliance will own how the company operates, trains, responds, and improves. The role reports directly to ownership. This is not a paperwork job.

What You Will Own

• Full DOT and FMCSA compliance program
• DOT drug and alcohol program (Part 40 and Part 382), random pool management, C/TPA relationship
• Driver qualification files, MVRs, medical certifications, road tests, hiring standards
• Hours of service oversight, ELD program, log auditing
• CSA score management and BASIC-level performance
• Accident response, investigation, and root-cause analysis
• Hazmat compliance, security plan, emergency response coordination
• Vehicle maintenance compliance interface with the shop
• Annual DOT audit readiness and any compliance reviews or investigations
• Driver training program, onboarding through advanced
• Safety culture across dispatch, drivers, and shop
• Insurance carrier relationship on the safety and loss control side

What We Are Looking For

• 3+ years in transportation safety, with at least 1 in a leadership role
• Hazmat, petroleum, or tanker experience strongly preferred
• Deep working knowledge of FMCSRs, hazmat regulations, and the DOT audit process
• CDS, CSP, or equivalent credential preferred but not required if the experience is there
• Track record of moving CSA scores, lowering accident frequency, or passing a clean compliance review
• Comfortable in the yard, in the cab, and in the boardroom
• Direct communicator. Not afraid to coach a 25-year driver or push back on an owner
• Can build a program, not just run one

This is not a role for someone who wants to file paperwork and go home. The fleet runs 24/7 and the customer base depends on us. When something happens at 2 AM, the Director of Safety and Compliance is reachable. When a driver needs coaching, you handle it. When the FMCSA shows up, you are ready.
