Responsibilities

What You’ll Do as a Climber / Pruner

As a Climber/Pruner, you’ll perform skilled tree care work including climbing, pruning, rigging, and removals. You’ll support the crew in delivering high‑quality service while maintaining a safe and efficient jobsite.

Tree Care & Climbing

• Perform tree pruning, shaping, and removals using climbing techniques and/or aerial lifts.
• Use ropes, saddles, rigging systems, and safety equipment to access and work within trees.
• Safely remove limbs and debris from residential properties without damaging structures or landscaping.

Equipment Operation

• Operate chainsaws, pole saws, chippers, stump grinders, and other tree care equipment.
• Inspect, maintain, and properly store climbing gear and tools.
• Assist with loading, hauling, and cleanup of brush, logs, and debris.

Safety & Jobsite Awareness

• Participate in daily job briefings and hazard assessments.
• Identify and communicate potential hazards such as weak limbs, power lines, or unstable trees.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Customer Interaction

• Communicate professionally with homeowners when needed.
• Answer basic questions about the work being performed.
• Represent Winkler with courtesy, respect, and professionalism.

Team Support

• Assist ground crew with rigging, lowering, cleanup, and equipment handling.
• Support the Crew Leader in completing jobs efficiently and safely.
• Contribute to a positive team environment through communication and collaboration.

Qualifications

What You Bring

• At least 1–3 years of experience in tree climbing, pruning, or arboriculture.
• Strong understanding of proper pruning techniques and tree structure.
• Proficiency in rope climbing, rigging, and aerial lift operation.
• Ability to identify common tree species, defects, and hazards.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus but not required.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.

Physical Demands

Ability to:

• Lift 50 lbs. to shoulder height or higher.
• Push or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Climb, balance, and work at heights for extended periods.
• Work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, rain).
• Operate two‑handed tools and equipment safely.
• Perform repetitive motions such as climbing, cutting, and lifting.
