Organizational Relationships
Reports to Director of Supply Chain. Maintains close working relationships with:
• Supply Management team (Supply Management Director, Commodity Managers, Buyers, etc.)
• Asian Sourcing Director and Staff
• Design team and Product Development Coordinator
• Plant Managers and staff
• Director of Scheduling Operations
• Director of Quality Assurance and Purchased Parts Quality Assurance Manager
• Quality Engineers
• Director of Global Strategy and Sourcing
Assumes responsibility for managing the communication and information flow for Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain to ensure the successful completion of all projects, including:
• Quality Engineering
• Product Compliance
• Environmental Compliance
• Cost Reduction
• Strategic Supply Partnerships
• Supply Chain Risk
Specific Responsibilities
Develops a thorough understanding of the markets for key commodities, including current and potential suppliers, economic drivers, currencies, benchmarking against competition, and innovation opportunities.
Supports Supplier performance management by preparing score cards and key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, quality reject rates, and purchase price variance. Follows up to ensure timely implementation of plans by Suppliers or Confidential Client Design.
Maintains an understanding of capabilities, costs, properties and manufacturing processes for key commodities. These may include components in Wood, Metals (Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Zinc, Magnesium, etc.), Plastics, Foams, Glass, Stone and Laminates.
Periodically reviews assigned supply base to identify strategic resourcing opportunities (cost savings, offshoring, onshoring, quality improvement, increased flexibility, etc.), and manages resourcing projects to a timely and appropriate resolution.
Works with the Supply Chain and Design Departments to coordinate Request for Quote (RFQ) for in-line Strategic Sourcing.
Issues Request to Purchase (RTP) to Supply Management for samples required during any Strategic Sourcing project and track.
Tracks freight cost for sampling; this includes airfreight and ocean freight.
Works with Product Development Coordinator for complete Design details, as needed, for Strategic Sourcing efforts and/or supplier meetings.
Creates and maintains project calendars for all Supply Chain projects to document goals and meet target completion dates. Tracks and Reports all Supply Chain projects; maintaining responsibility, timing, cost savings and other benefits from the project.
Collects and maintains records for compliance and reporting related to but not limited to CARB/TSCA, BIFMA, GSA, US Lacey Act, TB117-2013, FSC, other environmental product records.
General
Assumes complete responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Director of Supply Chain – Design. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new products, technology and offerings across supplier base.
Provides any reporting requested by the Director of Supply Chain – Design and the Director of Global Strategy and Sourcing – Design.
Authority
This position is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibility assigned. This action must be in accordance with Confidential Client Policy Manual and other established policies and practices, and subject to general or specific authority limitations as established by the Director of Global Strategy and Sourcing – Design. In situations where the level of authority is unclear, clarification will be made by the Director of Global Strategy and Sourcing – Design.
Qualifications
• BS in Engineering/ Design, Business or related field. MBA or relevant professional certifications desirable.
• 4+ Years’ Experience in Supply Chain Management or Strategic Sourcing role, preferably in a made-to-order manufacturing environment.
• Experience with both Domestic and International Sourcing preferred.
• Experience in Product Development Sourcing preferred.
• Excellent ability to develop and manage long-term relationships.
• Ability to merge an analytical approach with relationship building.
• Proactive approach to sourcing and supplier development.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Good knowledge of sourcing and purchasing principles and best practices.
• Ability to read and understand engineering prints and drawings, and problem-solve with suppliers, Quality and Design departments to address design challenges.
• Willingness to travel periodically.
