This position is a 205 days per year 8 hours a day position, starting on August 3 ,2026

Salary: $75,000 – $79,000

POSITION SUMMARY: The Student and Family Support Coordinator facilitates connections to mental health services, coordinates family support, and promotes equitable access to school programs and community resources. They ensure district compliance with the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and related state guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education. This position provides leadership, coordination, and direct support to students and families experiencing homelessness. The Student and Family Support Coordinator works to remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, and academic success by coordinating housing supports, transportation, basic needs assistance, and training for school staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

• Collaborate with Student Services Specialist, building counselors, student support specialists, and social workers to coordinate support for students, share information, and ensure equitable access to educational programs.
• Serve as a liaison between families, school staff, community agencies, and district departments.
• Provide oversight and ensure district compliance with McKinney-Vento requirements.
• Oversee student identification process, including initial identification of children and youth experiencing homelessness in coordination with school-based personnel, and assist with annual re-identification processes.
• Assist families in identifying and securing stable housing through housing counseling, community resource referrals, and collaboration with local housing agencies and social service providers.
• Work with school-based personnel to ensure that children and youth in homeless situations are permitted to enroll in and have full and equal opportunity to succeed in school.
• Manage and coordinate McKinney-Vento transportation requests and changes, including school-of-origin transportation.
• Support students and families with basic needs, including access to: groceries and food resources, clothing, school supplies, and other emergency supplies.
• Manage and maintain the district care closet, including inventory, organization, and equitable distribution of items.
• Conduct home visits, as appropriate, to support identification, housing stability efforts, and connection to services.
• Maintain confidential records and ensure data reporting requirements are met.
• Develop and provide annual training for building homeless liaisons and relevant staff on the definition of homelessness and the educational rights of students experiencing homelessness.
• Participate in district and community meetings related to housing instability and student support services.
• Coordinate with the state homeless coordinator and community and school personnel responsible for the provision of education and related services to children and youth in homeless situations
• Coordinate with district Federal Programs coordinator to conduct annual needs assessments and determine appropriate usage of district Title I funds for McKinney-Vento eligible children and youth

Additional Duties And Responsibilities

• Facilitate collaborative relationships among parents, school personnel, and representatives of other agencies and organizations.
• Maintain accessibility to the Executive Director of Student Services via cell phone and email.
• Travel between district facilities, family residences (as appropriate), community agencies, other educational sites, and regional/state meetings as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support student services and district initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Specific training or job experience required before appointment):

• Licensed School Social Worker (LGSW (minimum requirement), LISW, or LICSW) in the State of Minnesota, LICSW preferred.
• Experience working with children, families, and community-based social service systems.
• Knowledge of housing instability, trauma-informed practices, and community resources.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and maintain confidentiality.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws and requirements relating to McKinney-Vento
• Experience working in a school setting is preferred.
