Software Engineering Manager – Auth Team Full Time

This role sits at the core of a modern, high-scale engineering organization responsible for building the identity and authorization foundation used across all products. You will lead a team working on authentication systems, access control, and identity infrastructure that powers both human users and autonomous AI agents. The team defines how trust, permissions, and secure interactions are enforced across complex enterprise and advertising workflows. You will guide technical direction, mentor engineers, and ensure delivery of highly reliable, secure, and scalable systems. This is a hands-on leadership role blending deep backend expertise with platform architecture ownership and people management. You will also collaborate across product, security, and infrastructure teams to shape the future of authorization at scale.

Accountabilities

• Lead the design, development, and evolution of authentication and authorization systems that serve as the foundation for all platform services
• Define and implement identity and access control strategies for both human users and AI-driven agentic workflows
• Own and evolve Relationship-Based Access Control (ReBAC) models, ensuring scalability, correctness, and performance across systems
• Drive technical delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives spanning backend services, identity infrastructure, and platform APIs
• Establish engineering best practices, code quality standards, and architectural guidelines across the Auth team
• Mentor and develop a team of engineers through coaching, feedback, and career development planning
• Partner with product, security, and infrastructure stakeholders to align technical execution with business and platform needs
• Own roadmap planning, prioritization, and delivery while ensuring high-quality execution from design to production

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years in engineering management or technical leadership roles
• Strong expertise in authentication and authorization systems, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (token flows, scopes, validation, and federation)
• Hands-on experience with ReBAC or policy-based access control systems such as OpenFGA, Zanzibar, or SpiceDB
• Experience working with identity providers such as Auth0, Okta, Azure AD, or Keycloak
• Strong backend engineering skills in languages such as Java, Python, or Ruby, with experience in modern frameworks and distributed systems
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams in a high-scale, production environment
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and leadership skills with a strong focus on inclusive team culture
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and modern engineering productivity tools
