Your Impact

As a Software Engineer, you will collaborate with a global network of technologists, designers, and strategists to help clients transform their businesses through innovative digital solutions.

In this hands-on role, you’ll develop cutting-edge products, mentor client teams, and shape engineering cultures while growing your expertise across diverse industries and technologies.

You will work with clients across industries to bring their digital ambitions to life. You will develop software products and services from the ground up while coaching and mentoring client teams on engineering best practices, user-centric design, and Agile values. By co-creating with clients and their leadership, you’ll help build not only cutting-edge products but also the technical capabilities and cultures needed to sustain them.

Your work will drive meaningful changes for clients and their industries. You will participate in cross-functional problem-solving sessions with client leaders, shaping their digital strategies and delivering solutions that go beyond the product itself. Your efforts will help clients build scalable teams and engineering cultures that enable long-term success.

You will collaborate with clients across industries to turn their digital ambitions into reality through hands-on technical expertise. Based in one of our NA locations, you will be part of Tech & AI at McKinsey, a multidisciplinary group of software engineers, Agile coaches, designers, and technologists passionate about creating industry-shaping products and tools.

There is flexibility to hire at the Engineer I/II or Senior Software Engineer level, depending on your experience.

Your Qualifications and Skills

• Undergraduate or master’s degree; or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience developing full-stack applications by writing code that is readable, testable, maintainable, and scalable
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with other developers, as well as technical and non-technical people within software teams
• Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience across the full application stack with some of the following languages/frameworks: UI: JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, Angular.js, Next.js, Vue.js, Java, Sprint, C#, Node.js, SQL, MongoDB, cloud-native databases, AWS, Azure, GCP, Jenkins, Docker, Circle CI, Travis
• Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with common AI models and LLMs like GPT, Sonnet, etc.
• Experience with AI-assisted IDEs such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, etc.
• Experience working in Agile teams, including active participation in sprint ceremonies
• Experience pair programming collaboratively with other developers
• Exceptional time management to meet your responsibilities in a complex and largely autonomous work environment
• Willingness and ability to travel
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and local office language(s), with the ability to adjust your style to suit different perspectives and seniority levels
