About The Role

We are seeking a talented Staff Software Engineer to join our Foundry team in either Seattle or San Francisco, with options for remote or hybrid work arrangements. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing emerging AI-native products that address real go-to-market challenges for small businesses. You will work on building and experimenting at the forefront of AI technology, deploying early versions directly to founders to gather insights, and scaling successful features into integrated products within the HubSpot ecosystem. This is a full-stack role that requires designing systems capable of handling unstructured data, integrating deterministic workflows with agentic reasoning, and iterating based on customer feedback. You will be responsible for making architectural decisions that favor rapid learning and deployment, shipping working products weekly, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building and shipping AI-powered products, particularly with large language models (LLMs), prompt design, tool and function calling, structured outputs, and retrieval augmented generation (RAG).
• Proficiency with agent patterns, multi-step workflows, and AI integration frameworks.
• Experience working with secure, compliant systems using technologies such as Java, HBase, Vitess, Kafka, GraphQL, and Dropwizard.
• Proven track record of owning end-to-end product delivery, driving impactful outcomes, and leading technical initiatives.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to apply best practices to complex problems.
• Hands-on experience with building scalable, reliable systems and optimizing for latency, cost, and reliability in real-world AI environments.
• Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to guide teams, work directly with customers, and co-create product solutions.
• Demonstrated leadership and ownership at senior levels, with a focus on outcomes and high-quality execution.
• Deep understanding of AI model capabilities, limitations, and best practices for deployment and observability.
• Comfort with rapid prototyping, hacking demos, and working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship complex AI-powered features, including agent orchestration, NLP-driven workflows, multi-step reasoning chains, and real-time inference systems.
• Develop systems that balance deterministic reliability with flexible, agentic reasoning capabilities.
• Own the full product stack, including frontend interfaces, backend services, data pipelines, AI integrations, and infrastructure components.
• Implement human-in-the-loop patterns, confidence thresholds, fallback behaviors, and guardrails to ensure AI product trustworthiness at scale.
• Prototype rapidly, test ideas with real users, and iterate based on feedback to deliver continuous value.
• Instrument systems for observability, enabling data-driven insights into user behavior and model performance.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to shape product features, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business goals.
• Lead technical initiatives that challenge the status quo and create meaningful business impact through step-change improvements.
• Mentor team members, set technical standards, and promote high-quality engineering practices across the organization.
