Safety Specialist – Above Ground Storage Tanks (Construction / Maintenance / Repair)
A premier industrial construction contractor specializing in above-ground storage tank (AST) construction, repair, and maintenance is seeking a Safety Specialist to support field operations and reinforce a strong safety culture across project sites. This role is critical in ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate will bring 3–5+ years of safety experience within heavy industrial construction, with exposure to tank projects, turnarounds, or similar field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety excellence across all project sites
- Conduct job site safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments
- Lead and support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Safe Work Plans (SWPs)
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client-specific safety requirements
- Monitor field activities related to tank construction, repair, and maintenance, identifying and mitigating risks
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions
- Facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training for field personnel
- Maintain accurate and timely safety documentation, reports, and metrics
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to ensure safe execution of work
- Support pre-job planning, including participation in pre-construction and safety planning meetings
- Assist with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance initiatives
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of safety experience in industrial construction, maintenance, or related field
- Experience working in environments such as:
- Above-ground storage tanks (highly preferred)
- Oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, or heavy industrial construction
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and safety regulations
- Experience conducting JHAs, audits, and incident investigations
- Ability to work in field-based environments, including travel to project sites as needed
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field preferred
- Relevant certifications highly desired, such as:
- OSHA 30 (required or preferred)
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- NCCER or other industry-recognized credentials
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
