Position: Metallurgical Engineering Superintendent Location: Lancaster, PA (100% Onsite) Job Type: Full-Time The Metallurgical Engineering Superintendent provides plant-wide leadership and technical expertise in metallurgical engineering. This role is responsible for overseeing product metallurgy, driving quality standards, leading new product development, and managing the metallurgical engineering team.
The position plays a key role in ensuring product quality, resolving customer issues, and improving manufacturing processes while aligning with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Metallurgy
- Lead metallurgical practices and product availability standards
- Develop and maintain product specifications and metallurgical documentation
- Provide technical guidance on production processes and inspection requirements
- Support qualification of new materials (slab, reroll, hardeners, etc.)
New Product Development
- Lead new product development initiatives
- Conduct technical reviews of trial and availability requests
- Collaborate with production teams to introduce new products
Quality & Compliance
- Oversee disposition of non-conforming materials
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Monitor product capability and drive continuous improvement
- Participate in internal/external quality audits
Team Leadership
- Supervise metallurgical engineers and technicians
- Coach and mentor team members
- Set performance goals aligned with business objectives
- Ensure adherence to company values and policies
Customer Interaction
- Provide technical support to customers
- Resolve product-related claims
- Travel to customer locations when required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science
- Minimum 5+ years of manufacturing quality experience
- Minimum 3+ years of supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of manufacturing quality experience
- Experience in aluminum rolling and metallurgy
- Experience in ISO9001 or IATF 16949 environments
- Strong analytical and data analysis skills (Minitab, AS400, MS Office)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
