The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Bureau of Air Management is seeking an Engineer Trainee within the Planning & Standards Division’s Mobile Sources Group. After successful completion of the program, the employee may be eligible for the target class of Environmental Protection Air Pollution Control Engineer 1.

About The Mobile Sources Group
The Mobile Sources Group leads Connecticut’s efforts to reduce air pollution from on‑road and non‑road vehicles and to support the state’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation. Mobile sources are now the largest contributor to air pollution in Connecticut, and the transportation sector is central to both the state’s Comprehensive Energy Strategy and its federal Clean Air Act obligations. The group’s work focuses on achieving air quality improvements, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerating the shift away from gasoline toward cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable energy sources.
Responsibilities Of The Mobile Sources Group
Duties
To achieve the state’s air quality and greenhouse gas reduction goals, the successful candidate will be trained to:
Career progression within the State of Connecticut: starting with Engineer Trainee, advancing to Air Pollution Control Engineer 1, then Air Pollution Control Engineer 2, then Air Pollution Control Engineer 3, and ending at Supervising Air Pollution Control Engineer.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for receiving training in introductory professional engineering work for the development of technical and professional engineering skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement to the technical engineering work of the agency.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs a wide variety of increasingly difficult duties as technical skills are acquired during course of training period.

Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.
