Job Title: Electrical Engineering DirectorJob Description
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will manage and oversee electrical engineering projects from inception to completion. You will collaborate closely with the Project Manager and other team members to ensure project success. Your responsibilities will include producing and reviewing drawing sets, stamping others’ work, and coordinating with utilities to upgrade services to the site, including switchgears and transformers. Additionally, you will conduct power system modeling using SKM, Easypower, and ETAP, perform flash studies, relay coordination, and prepare detailed reports. You will work with electricians on start-up projects, conduct site visits for load studies and upgrades, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Responsibilities
Manage and oversee electrical engineering projects from inception to completion.
Collaborate with Project Manager and team members to ensure project success.
Produce and review drawing sets and stamp others’ work.
Coordinate with utilities to upgrade services, including switchgears and transformers.
Conduct power system modeling using SKM, Easypower, and ETAP.
Perform flash studies, relay coordination, and prepare detailed reports.
Conduct site visits for load studies and upgrades.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Complete medium and low voltage electrical engineering calculations and documentation.
Apply knowledge of relevant codes such as NFPA 70, 70E, 30, 58, and 497, NEMA, API 500 & 540, IEEE.
Coordinate project deliverables, deadlines, and interdisciplinary needs.
Develop and check one-line diagrams, conduit plans, grounding plans, and other design elements.
Communicate confidently with clients and electrical utilities.
Coordinate with mechanical, civil, process, and structural engineers.
Support business development opportunities and assist in marketing efforts.
Perform contractor construction submittal reviews and respond to request for information documents.
Coordinate with equipment vendors on behalf of clients.
Travel within the United States 15% to 20% for site investigations, design reviews, and construction support.
Essential Skills
Professional Engineer (PE) license via NCEES.
Extensive experience in power systems, particularly 15kV and lower, focusing on 600V and lower.
Proficiency in power system modeling software (SKM, Easypower, ETAP).
Experience in design and review of electrical systems.
Strong knowledge of electrical equipment and breakers.
10+ years of experience in project completion for clients in the industrial market sector.
Experience in project development from concept through completion, estimating, start-up, and commissioning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in the pulp and paper industry is a plus.
Familiarity with overhead utility systems is beneficial but not required.
Previous experience working with power distribution systems.
Work Environment
The company is a consulting engineering firm based in Portland, OR, providing multi-discipline engineering study, design, and construction management services to industrial clients. Projects cover various industries, including petrochemical, primary metals, chemical, and pulp & paper. This is a full-time remote role with 15% travel requirements to job sites and client meetings. The environment is more traditional, with involvement from the founders since the 70s. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $145000.00 – $180000.00/yr.
