What we’re seeking

Seeking a highly organized and proactive Freight Dispatch & Logistics Coordinator to manage daily transportation operations and ensure efficient, on-time movement of freight. This role for a shipper is responsible for finding and dispatching drivers, coordinating shipments, communicating with carriers and customers and maintaining all business relationships, and maintaining accurate logistics documentation.

Responsibilities:

Dispatch & Transportation Coordination

• Schedule, dispatch, and track freight shipments for pickups and deliveries.
• Assign loads to drivers or carriers based on availability, cost, and service requirements.
• Monitor driver locations, transit progress, and delivery timelines throughout the day.
• Communicate route details, load information, and schedule changes to drivers in real time.
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, and company policies.

Carrier & Customer Communication

• Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers, drivers, and customers regarding shipment status.
• Resolve transportation issues such as delays, breakdowns, or route changes.
• Maintain strong relationships with carriers to ensure reliable capacity.
• Provide customers with accurate updates, ETAs, and service confirmations.

Logistics Planning & Execution

• Optimize routes and load assignments to reduce costs and maximize efficiency.
• Coordinate with warehouse, yard, or production teams to ensure freight readiness.
• Maintain real-time data in TMS systems, including load details, carrier info, and documentation.
• Verify freight documentation such as BOLs, PODs, and delivery receipts.

Administrative & Reporting

• Track and record daily dispatch activities, load statuses, and service metrics.
• Assist with freight billing, rate confirmations, and carrier invoices.
• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly logistics reports as needed.
• Maintain accurate records for compliance and audit purposes.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred (Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field).
• 2+ years of experience in dispatching, freight coordination, trucking, or logistics operations.
• Strong understanding of transportation processes, carrier networks, and DOT regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); experience with TMS software is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong multitasking ability and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours when operational needs require it.

Required Skills
