Job Title: Accountant – Real Estate Development & Construction
Location: Dallas, TX
Reports To: EVP of Finance, Executive Leadership
Job Summary
The Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations of TDJREV, working directly under the EVP of Finance. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records across multiple real estate development projects, with a focus on job costing, Construction in Progress (CIP), and project-level financial reporting.
The Accountant will play a key role in supporting construction accounting, draw preparation, and financial controls, ensuring alignment with lender requirements and internal reporting standards. This position offers direct exposure to executive-level financial strategy and a clear path for growth within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
• QuickBooks System Support & Maintenance
o Assist in maintaining and managing the QuickBooks accounting system
o Support the chart of accounts structure aligned with development and construction activities
o Maintain job costing structures, including project and phase coding
o Assist in tracking Construction in Progress (CIP), development fees, and cost classifications
o Review and reconcile accounting entries for accuracy and completeness
• Construction Accounting & CIP Tracking
o Assist in maintaining the Construction in Progress (CIP) ledger across active projects
o Track and allocate costs by project, phase, and cost category
o Support proper capitalization of labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and eligible soft costs
o Help ensure accurate classification between capitalized costs and operating expenses
• Project Financial Reporting & Budget Tracking
o Assist in preparing monthly project financial statements
o Support budget tracking and variance analysis
o Monitor project performance and assist in identifying cost deviations
o Maintain reporting schedules and financial documentation
• Construction Draw Preparation
o Assist in preparing monthly construction draw packages
o Reconcile budgeted versus actual costs and percentage of completion
o Compile and organize supporting documentation, including invoices, lien waivers, and cost
summaries
o Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate submissions
• Contract & Cost Classification Support
o Assist in reviewing contracts for proper accounting treatment
o Ensure costs are correctly coded by project, phase, and category
o Support alignment between contracts, budgets, and loan requirements
• Cash Flow & Expense Monitoring
o Track project expenditures against approved budgets
o Monitor burn rate and flag potential variances
o Support reporting efforts related to cash flow and liquidity planning
• Accounting Quality Control
o Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial data
o Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records
o Support compliance with internal accounting policies
• Data & Document Management
o Maintain supporting documentation for all transactions, including invoices, contracts, and draw
files
o Ensure proper audit trails within QuickBooks and related systems
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5–10 years of accounting experience
• Strong experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
• Experience with job costing and project-based accounting preferred
Preferred Attributes
• Experience in real estate accounting
• Experience in construction accounting, including Construction in Progress (CIP)
• Familiarity with construction draw processes and lender requirements
• Experience working with multi-entity or project-based financial structures

Compensation & Benefits
• Base Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
• Performance Bonus: Discretionary, tied to project milestones and company performance
