Position Description
We are looking for a committed and student-focused Special Education Paraprofessional to join the SOAR Program (Student Opportunities for Academic Readiness) at an elementary school. The SOAR program is a structured, self-contained learning environment designed to support students who benefit from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based strategies in order to successfully engage in the school setting.
While many students enrolled in the program have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, a diagnosis is not required for participation. The SOAR program focuses on individualized instruction, whole-child development, and provides planned opportunities for inclusion throughout the school week.
Program & Classroom Environment
Self-contained program where students spend more than 60% of their school day within the SOAR setting
Instruction delivered in one-on-one or small-group formats (1:1, 1:2, or 1:3), depending on student needs
Highly individualized programming designed to support academic growth, behavior management, social development, and functional skill acquisition
Core Responsibilities
Support students during individual and small-group instructional activities
Implement behavior support strategies aligned with ABA principles
Assist students with development in the following areas:
Academic skills
Social skills , including peer interaction and play
Access skills , such as navigating classroom and school environments
Behavioral skills , including de-escalation and conflict resolution
Daily living skills , including tooth brushing, handwashing, and toileting
Readiness skills , such as following directions, raising hands, and participating in group activities
Communication skills , including expressing needs and engaging in conversation
Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to ensure consistency with individualized student plans

Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age
