Brake Performance Engineer Full Time NEW

HireArt is helping our client find a Brake Performance Engineer to support the development and validation of braking systems for advanced vehicle platforms.

In this role, you’ll contribute to vehicle-level brake performance by supporting requirements development, testing, calibration validation, and cross-functional integration of brake systems. You will work closely with internal engineering teams and external brake control suppliers to ensure braking systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on brake development engineer with experience working at an OEM or Tier 1 supplier. You bring a strong understanding of braking systems, enjoy working directly with vehicles, and are comfortable analyzing data to drive performance improvements.

As a Brake Performance Engineer, You’ll

• Develop and validate vehicle-level brake performance and braking comfort characteristics.
• Support brake control development by defining and translating performance requirements for software and controls teams.
• Conduct vehicle testing, including test planning, instrumentation setup, and execution at proving grounds and test sites.
• Analyze braking data and lead root cause investigations for performance issues identified during testing.
• Manage and maintain development testing branches for brake software deployed to test vehicles.
• Collaborate with firmware and controls teams to deploy software updates and validate functionality on vehicles.
• Work cross-functionally with vehicle engineering, simulation, and systems teams to support brake system integration.
• Monitor fleet performance using dashboards and telemetry to identify trends and potential issues.
• Support validation testing required for FMVSS braking regulations and report results.
• Coordinate with external brake control suppliers to support development, validation, and issue resolution.
• Travel to testing sites and supplier facilities to support brake development activities.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in automotive brake development or vehicle brake testing
• Strong understanding of hydraulic braking systems and braking fundamentals
• Hands-on experience with vehicle instrumentation and in-vehicle testing
• Experience with CAN-based measurement tools, specifically CANalyzer
• Experience analyzing braking system performance and supporting calibration development
• Experience working with brake control systems or brake system suppliers
• Familiarity with vehicle dynamics across varying surface conditions
• Experience with vehicle-level and bench-level brake system integration
• Familiarity with FMVSS braking test requirements
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams
• Willingness to travel frequently within the continental United States, including Midwest testing locations

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with electromechanical braking systems or stability control functions
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments
• Experience with data analysis tools or scripting
• Experience with tools such as INCA, MDA, Racelogic VBOX, or MATLAB/Simulink
• Experience working with brake suppliers or Tier 1 system providers
