Linux Systems Engineer Full Time

Basic Requirements

• 20 years’ experience as a system engineer
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
• 5 additional years of experience as a system engineer may be substituted for a degree

Job Description

• The System Engineer shall be responsible for providing support for a large-scale Linux system including installation of COTS/GOTS/FOSS software, day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for all of the compute, network, memory, and storage system components.
• In addition, the System Engineer shall maintain the system security integrity and configure network components, along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance.

Required Experience

• Experience using the Linux CLI
• Experience developing scripts using Bash/Python
• Experience performing System Administration including installation, configuration, and support of COTS/GOTS/FOSS software in a large scale Linux cluster environment
• General technical knowledge regarding compute, network, memory, and storage system components
• Experience with Red Hat Satellite systems management solution
• Experience with the sustainment and support of large Linux clusters including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution
• Experience with configuring and sustaining a VMware ESXi/Virtualization environment
• Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) principles and automation tools such as SaltStack and Ansible
• Experience with corporate STE/STN security compliance policies and procedures
• Experience using system monitoring tools such as HPE One View and Nagios
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker

Desired Experience

• Experience with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes
• Experience with distributed files systems such as Weka, CEPH, GPFS, and HDFS
• Experience with the Atlassian Suite of Tools such as Jira and Confluence

Salary: $255,000 – $265,000 annually
