About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer to join our NeuralPLexer team. This role is pivotal in developing and refining engineering systems that enable machine learning research to transform into scalable, reliable workflows for drug discovery. The successful candidate will work closely with ML scientists to co-develop, implement, and optimize workflows for training, evaluating, and deploying models on diverse datasets including structural, affinity, and synthetic data. The position emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and the translation of research code into robust, reusable systems, without direct responsibility for core model development. This is a remote opportunity based on the US East Coast, ideal for professionals passionate about applying their software engineering expertise in a research-driven environment to impact healthcare solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent, preferably in machine learning-adjacent or data-intensive environments
• Strong proficiency in Python programming with a demonstrated commitment to software engineering best practices such as testing, version control, and code quality
• Experience working closely with machine learning practitioners or within research-driven settings
• Proven ability to develop or support machine learning workflows, data pipelines, or evaluation systems
• Capability to operate effectively in partially defined, research-heavy environments and bring structure to evolving codebases
• Excellent collaboration skills and comfort with pair programming and iterative development processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in scientific or computational research environments
• Familiarity with structural biology, chemistry, or molecular modeling workflows
• Exposure to cloud-based systems such as AWS, Kubernetes, and high-performance computing (HPC)
• Experience working with large-scale or heterogeneous datasets

Responsibilities

• Collaborate embedded with ML scientists to co-develop and refine model training and evaluation workflows
• Translate experimental research code into maintainable, well-structured, and reusable systems
• Build and expand benchmarking systems for model evaluation on structural and affinity datasets, including metric computation and reproducibility support
• Develop tooling and interfaces that facilitate rapid iteration and expose new capabilities to researchers
• Contribute to the ongoing development and productization of NeuralPLexer
• Partner with platform and infrastructure engineers to scale workflows as needed, without owning core infrastructure
• Conduct code reviews and mentor team members on best practices in software engineering
• Enhance the reliability, clarity, and reproducibility of machine learning workflows and supporting systems
• Communicate technical work effectively across cross-functional research and engineering teams
