Argos is building the AI operating system for in-house legal teams. We turn scattered workflows across email, Slack, and documents into structured, searchable matters with AI copilots, durable workflows, and a living knowledge base. Legal teams using Argos get real-time visibility into every matter, AI-generated responses grounded in their own prior work and citations, and automation that can cut outside counsel spend by 50%+. Role Description

In-house legal teams at companies like Stripe and Airbnb get 20+ requests a day across Slack, email, and meetings. Most are answerable from prior work the team has already done – but that knowledge is buried across Google Drive, Notion, email threads, and spreadsheets. Nobody can find it, so lawyers redo work, or they send it to outside counsel at $800/hour.

We’re building the system that fixes this. Argos ingests a legal team’s entire operational history, structures it into searchable matters, and uses AI to generate grounded, cited responses to new legal questions.

As a Founding Software Engineer, you’ll be building the core of this system:

• The ingestion and sync layer that connects to a customer’s workplace tools and keeps millions of documents indexed and current
• The retrieval engine that takes a legal question, searches across prior matters and documents, and assembles the right context for answer generation
• The AI layer that reasons over retrieved context and produces cited, confidence-scored legal responses that lawyers actually trust
• The frontend experience — matter tracking, agent interaction, citation verification — that enterprise legal teams live in every day

Qualifications

• 3–7 years building and shipping fullstack web applications, ideally at startups or high-growth B2B SaaS companies
• Strong Python skills, comfortable with PostgreSQL, writing and debugging complex queries, React and TypeScript on the frontend
• Experience integrating LLMs into product features (RAG, embeddings, tool calling, agent architectures)
• Experience with durable workflow engines (Temporal or similar) is a strong plus

Compensation

$150K–$225K base + 0.25–1% equity. Based in San Francisco, with remote flexibility for the right candidate.
