Traffic Signal Technician III

JOB SUMMARY
Performs highly skilled work involving the installation, repair,
maintenance, and construction of
both traffic signals and lighting equipment. Testing of communication
equipment, camera
systems, and traffic signal coordination software.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Observes the operation of traffic signals and controls.
Performs scheduled maintenance and makes adjustments as required.
Installs and tests new signal equipment.
Installs the field wiring for the traffic signals, both new and
replacement requirements.
Operates bucket truck.
Maintains radio and computer-controlled traffic signal systems.
Maintains stock parts for traffic signals and controls.
Provides critical information to public safety through video systems.
Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
Supervision Received:
Works under general supervision of the Traffic Operations Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised:
May exercise close to general supervision over other personnel
performing related work.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, and at least five (5) years in
traffic signal maintenance and
repair or related field with increasing responsibility levels; or any
equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Arkansas Drivers License and a clean driving record
Certification from an accredited institution in the electronics field
preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the functions and maintenance requirements of signal
systems, and related
communications.
Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the installation and
construction of traffic
control devices (wiring, supporting, protection, erection, etc.).
Skill in performing electrical work involved in the installation,
repair, maintenance, and
construction of signal devices and communication systems.
Skilled in computer operations.
Skilled in gathering data from traffic studies, correlating data, and
utilizing it to implement
timing data and signal systems.
Ability to work from ladders and platforms.
Ability to lift and operate equipment and tools required for
construction of traffic signal
systems.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to safely work at different heights with tools and equipment
needed to perform traffic
signal and lighting repair and maintenance.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to read and understand parts manuals, blue prints, and catalogs.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Frequently stands, walks, talks, and hears; occasionally sits; uses
hands to handle objects; reaches
with hands and arms; stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs, or
balances; specific vision
requirements include close, color, distance, peripheral, depth
perception, and the ability to
adjust focus; occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud; exposed to
outdoor weather
conditions; works in high precarious places and near moving mechanical
parts; at risk of electrical
shock and/or vibration.
