Assistant Controller
Fully Remote (United States) | Full-time
Reporting to: Drew Savage, Vice President & Controller
Responsibilities
- Own and manage the monthly close process, including timeline, coordination across the team, and delivery of financial results
- Review key account reconciliations (cash, mortgage, and reinsurance-related accounts) and ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of discrepancies
- Supervise and review journal entries, account analyses, and supporting schedules
- Partner with the Controller to support financial reporting, including internal reporting and statutory reporting requirements
- Provide oversight of mortgage accounting activities, including cash application, escrow, and portfolio-level reconciliations
- Provide oversight of reinsurance accounting, including funds withheld structures, receivables/payables, and treaty-related reporting
- Support external audits and regulatory inquiries
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and compliance to resolve issues
- Mentor and develop accounting staff; provide guidance, review, and feedback
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong experience with balance sheet reconciliations and review processes (cash, mortgage, reinsurance, or similar complex areas)
- Experience managing or coordinating month-end close processes
- Familiarity with statutory accounting and/or insurance-related accounting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage priorities, review work, and lead processes in a fast-paced environment
