Position Overview:

The Piler’s duties include inspecting cut wood for defects, measuring, quality control, stacking & packaging products for next steps in the manufacturing process, and completing basic paperwork. It can also include minor machine maintenance, cleaning and organization, and other important team tasks.

New assistants begin with basic tasks. As experience is gained, more complex tasks can be trained, mastered and performed – with the goal of eventually becoming a fully trained saw operator. An Operator’s tasks include: setting-up, operating, and tending our optimizing chop and gang saw machines; marking, feeding the wood into the saw, and machine basic maintenance. Operators also track orders, piece counts, and other important production numbers.

Education and Experience:

Mechanical skills and the ability to accurately use/read calipers and other measuring devices is helpful, but all can be taught on the job when there is a desire and drive to learn.

Other general duties/requirements:

• Maintain good attendance and be punctual
• Be organized and make good use of time
• Keep the work area, machinery, and tools neat and clean and in proper order
• Follow standard operating and safety procedures and ensure that all OSHA regulations are followed (i.e., Follow Job Hazard Analysis and Lock Out/Tag Out guidelines to ensure safe operations)
• The use of protective safety gear and equipment is always required
• Attend all safety training and other company meetings as required
• Seek continuous improvement throughout the department
• Stay informed by reading company communications and postings
• Cross-train when available and assist in other work areas when needed
• Read and understand the company’s Employee Handbook for company policy, procedures and goals
• Ensure quality standards and project specifications
• Keep complete, accurate, legible documentation
• Be a self-starter, requiring minimal supervision to stay on task and complete assigned tasks
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent quality standards
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work collaboratively and respectfully with team members.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to walk, squat, stoop, bend, reach, and turn
• Must be able to negotiate all normal body movements associated with climbing a ladder
• Must be able to lift/move/push up to 75 lbs safely and correctly

Qualifications:

• Minimum age requirement for machine operation: 18 years
• High School Diploma/GED
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English
• Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test
• Must be able to reliably commute to Foreston MN

Working Specifics and Conditions:

• Regular work hours for 1st Shift are: Monday – Thursday 5:00am – 3:30pm, with occasional work required on Fridays.
• Workplace noise is in the high range and requires to use of hearing protection at all times.
• The use of foot protection (anti-crush toe shoes) and safety glasses is always required.
• The workplace is a semi-climate-controlled environment – it will be warm in the summer and cold in the winter.
• Wood dust will be present.
