Assumes overall responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the Finishing Department. Plans, directs, coordinates and controls the activities of employees in meeting plant production and quality objectives. Adheres to plant policies and procedures in the production process. Cooperates and works closely with the other departments within the guidelines enunciated by the Assistant Operations Manager and Operations Manager. Reviews scheduled production quotas. Plans daily distribution of work flow. To provide a safe and accident free work environment.
Organizational Relationships
Accountable to the Assistant Operations Manager. As necessary, receives direction and counsel from Operations Manager. Maintains close contact with other Plant Department heads. These include; Veneer, Cabinet, Rub & Pack, and Personnel Department.
Specific Responsibilities
Departmental Operation
Plans daily production activities based on criteria established by the Operations & Assistant Operations Manager.
Coordinates finish supplies and equipment, appropriates supplies to obtain optimum production and utilization of manpower and equipment.
Directs production activities of employees to obtain maximum efficiency in realizing established production goals.
Coordinates with Plant Maintenance to insure fully operational equipment is available for use by employees.
Monitors production to insure established quality is adhered to.
Maintain weekly schedule for M.O.T dates and reports M.O.T daily.
Personnel
Interviews job applicants to satisfy departmental needs.
Performs timely wage reviews of employees, counseling as needed and recommends raises.
Briefs new employees on policies and procedures established by company. Re: Safety, Security, Health, etc.
Trains employees in all aspects of job and monitors performance.
Counsels employees whose work performance is sub-standard.
Dutifully supports company programs which solicit employee’s participation.
Visits sick employees and attends funerals associated with employees.
Conducts monthly Departmental Safety meetings.
Terminates employment of employees, who after proper counseling fail to maintain established work standards.
Authority
The department supervisor is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to maintain effective department operations. These actions must be in accordance with the Bernhardt policy manual and other established policies, practices and subject to the general or specific authority as established by the Operations Manager.
