About The Role

We are seeking a foundational Full-Stack Engineer who thrives in ambiguous environments and enjoys building complex, distributed systems. In this early-stage startup role, you will be instrumental in defining our core architecture and technology stack. You will lead the design and implementation of APIs, services, and infrastructure that form the backbone of our platform. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence engineering strategy, drive product execution, and establish a strong cultural foundation alongside our leadership team. You will be responsible for creating scalable, secure backend services and ensuring they operate efficiently at scale. Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions to our clients while shaping the technical future of NumeralHQ.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building backend systems in high-growth environments
• Proficiency with backend technologies such as Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Experience designing robust APIs and distributed systems capable of scaling
• Strong product sensibility, with the ability to balance performance, flexibility, and speed
• Comfort working in dynamic startup environments with evolving needs
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, secure backend services and APIs from the ground up
• Make architectural decisions that prioritize speed, data integrity, and maintainability
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and data teams to develop performant systems supporting key customer workflows
• Own infrastructure management, observability, and system performance optimization
• Help establish engineering best practices, maintain high code quality, and foster a strong backend culture
• Contribute to the evolution of our platform architecture, including scaling monoliths, transitioning to microservices, or implementing event-driven systems
