About The Role

The Principal Software Engineer at Thorne plays a strategic role in aligning technology initiatives with business objectives. This position involves leading the design, development, and deployment of scalable, fault-tolerant integrations and platform solutions that support our business operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including business leaders, vendors, and technology partners, to develop a compelling technical vision and ensure its successful execution. This role requires a combination of hands-on software development expertise, architectural leadership, and strategic thinking to shape the future of Thorne’s technology landscape. As a key technical leader, you will mentor engineering teams, drive innovation, and ensure our systems adhere to security and compliance standards while continuously improving the customer experience.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
• 8+ years of experience in modern statically typed programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Go
• Proficiency with Salesforce, MuleSoft, JavaScript, HTML, SQL, CSS, and cloud computing platforms
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system architecture
• Experience working with or presenting to business stakeholders
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to manage complex platforms with deep understanding of application logic and dependencies
• Proven leadership skills in building, motivating, and mentoring high-performing teams
• Experience in security, compliance, and regulatory environments
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systemic thinking abilities

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business and technology leadership to define and execute the company’s strategic technical vision
• Design, develop, deploy, and operate high-performance, fault-tolerant system integrations with internal and third-party systems
• Contribute to the development, testing, and implementation of platform enhancements to improve functionality and scalability
• Ensure systems security, compliance, and regulatory standards are met and vulnerabilities are proactively addressed
• Establish metrics and processes to assess and improve the customer experience continually
• Lead recruiting efforts for senior engineers and technical managers to strengthen the engineering team
• Provide technical mentorship and leadership to development staff, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
• Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to executives, stakeholders, and technical teams
• Stay current with emerging technology trends and evaluate new software solutions for potential adoption
