About The Role

The Principal Software Engineer I is a senior technical leader responsible for driving engineering excellence across the organization. This role involves shaping architectural strategies, advancing best practices, and leading the development of scalable, high-quality software solutions. As a key collaborator with architects and engineering leaders, you will influence technical direction, ensure consistency across systems, and contribute to the evolution of our technology platforms. The role requires a hands-on approach, providing mentorship, facilitating technical discussions, and guiding cross-functional teams to address complex challenges effectively.

While this position offers the flexibility of remote work, it requires quarterly travel to our corporate office located in Tampa, Florida. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for fostering innovation and technical excellence within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• 8+ years of relevant business and technical experience in software development
• Expert proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Go, or TypeScript
• Deep understanding of relational and non-relational databases, including data modeling and query optimization
• Working knowledge of HL7 FHIR, its use, constraints, and integration patterns
• Experience leveraging agentic AI tools across the SDLC to enhance productivity and quality
• Advanced experience with Git, source control, and complex branching strategies
• Proficiency in designing and integrating web services and APIs, including RESTful and event-driven architectures
• Strong background in Linux environments, including automation and deployment pipelines
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Expertise in secure coding, performance tuning, and building fault-tolerant systems
• Proven leadership in architectural decision-making and technical mentorship
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking capabilities

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with peers, architects, and engineering leaders to influence architectural direction and ensure system consistency
• Serve as a trusted advisor to engineering teams, guiding best practices in system design, development, testing, and deployment
• Lead by example through hands-on development and contribution to critical codebases
• Facilitate technical discussions, design reviews, and architecture planning sessions across teams
• Mentor and support engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and inclusion
• Occasionally assume project leadership roles, coordinating cross-team efforts to deliver high-impact initiatives
• Partner with product and design stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility, scalability, and alignment with user needs
• Drive improvements in engineering processes, tooling, and standards to enhance productivity and system reliability
• Contribute to the evolution of engineering culture by promoting innovation, knowledge sharing, and a growth mindset
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, frameworks, and best practices to keep the organization at the forefront of industry standards
