Software Engineer — Full-Stack & Applied AI

About us
Throckmorton Partners is building an innovative AI-powered real estate solution for industry professionals. Our product is in active daily use by real customers, and we’re deliberately keeping a low profile while we build — we’ll share the full picture with you during the interview process.
We are a small, fast-moving team — self-funded, with no need to raise outside capital, so we build for customers rather than for investors. You would be one of the first engineering hires, working directly with the founder, with real ownership over what gets built and how.
What you’ll work on
This is a true full-stack role on a production system used every day:
· Backend services — Python/FastAPI APIs and data pipelines backed by PostgreSQL.
· AI features — building on frontier LLMs (Anthropic’s Claude) for document extraction, classification, and research workflows — including the validation, retry, and “never silently fail” engineering that makes AI features trustworthy in production.
· Frontend — fast, data-dense interfaces (grids, maps, document viewers) that professionals live in all day.
· Data engineering — integrating public data sources and building entity-resolution and deduplication systems.
· Reliability and operations — multi-tenant data isolation, deployment, monitoring, and the unglamorous-but-critical work of keeping a production system fast and correct.
You will ship to production in your first week. Features here go from idea to live in days, not quarters.
What we require
· B.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent rigorous technical degree with a strong CS core) from an accredited four-year program.
· A strong academic record — roughly a 3.5+ GPA or equivalent evidence of academic excellence (honors, awards, standout coursework). We will ask about it.
· 0–5 years of professional software engineering experience. Outstanding new grads are genuinely welcome; so are engineers a few years in who want more ownership than a big company gives them.
· Solid fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, databases/SQL, and the ability to reason about systems, not just frameworks.
· Strong Python, or strong skills in a comparable language with the ability to come up to speed in Python quickly.
· Ability to work on-site in Mill Valley, CA. This is an in-person role — we move fast because we sit together.
What makes someone great here
· You’ve built things outside of assignments — side projects, internships, open source, a startup attempt. You can show us something and explain the decisions behind it.
· You’re rigorous about correctness. You validate data programmatically and surface failures instead of hiding them.
· You’re curious about how businesses actually operate — or at least excited to learn a real-world domain deeply.
· You communicate clearly in writing and own outcomes, not just tickets.
· Experience with LLM APIs, prompt/tool design, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, or geospatial data is a plus — not a requirement. We care more about how fast you learn than what you already know.
