Overview

Veeco is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in semiconductor capital equipment and New Product Introduction (NPI). In this high-impact role, you will lead the transition of complex, precision-engineered systems from design to production, ensuring manufacturability, scalability, and zero-defect readiness. You’ll work cross-functionally with design, test, and supply chain teams to drive early risk retirement, process development, and continuous improvement across the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

NPI Leadership:

• Lead the successful transition of new products from the design phase to volume production, ensuring all NPI milestones are met on time and within scope. This includes managing the introduction of engineering changes, validating production processes, and optimizing BOM structures and assembly lines for scalability.

Concurrent Engineering

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, quality engineering, supply chain, and production, to ensure product manufacturability and alignment with business objectives
• Develop and Implement best known methods related to Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Test (DFT).
• Work with key stakeholders to evaluate and find design issues or areas of risk during design or development from a manufacturing perspective. Prevent issues from reaching manufacturing.

Volume Production Build & Test Readiness

• Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and equipment, finding opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
• Create documentation required for successfully manufacturing hardware at scale
• Work with final test operations to support troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical, and control related issues. Be able to permanently resolve these issues to prevent recurrence.  

Problem Solving

• Analyze and resolve technical and operational problems (Fishbone, 8D analysis, SPC).
• Participate in product life cycle projects for implementation of new products into production at contract manufacturer site from manufacturing engineering role. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (manufacturing, mechanical, industrial) with at least 8 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree and 6 years of related experience is required. Experience with process improvement methodologies is required as is experience transitioning new products from design to manufacturing launch and volume production. Experience in complex equipment/product manufacturing is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Proven experience in leading and supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, from initial design concept through to full-scale manufacturing and volume production. The candidate should have a strong track record of successfully transitioning products from prototype to production while ensuring alignment with manufacturing, testing, and quality standards.
• Knowledge in using tools for virtual design process such as VisMockuUp, Technomatix, Cameo/ CATIA, Creo or similar is a plus
• Experience with SolidWorks /Tol Analyst/Design Check/interference analysis.
• SAP enterprise resource planning experience is a plus.
• Experience with systems designs input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software/controls compatibility is preferred.
• Schematic and wire harness design knowledge.
• Vacuum (UHV) and clean room experience highly desirable.
• Knowledge of design and quality tools to evaluate manufacturability (DF) and design for failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA) & PFMEA.
• Mindset with a strong ability to read and interpret highly technical documents (e.g., mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material, routings, operating, maintenance, and job safety instructions/procedures) provided in verbal, written, or pictorial form.
• Semiconductor background a plus.
• Certification in Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
• Must be willing to travel up to 10%.

Salary And Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $112,000-$142,000, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
