About Engel & Engel
Established in Los Angeles in 1994, Engel & Engel LLP is one of California’s top forensic accounting firms, with more than 30 years of experience supporting plaintiffs and defendants in complex business litigation across California and nationwide. Our work has supported billions of dollars in court awards and defenses, including a $2.3 billion jury award. In 2025, founding partner Jason Engel was named to Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Top CPAs in Valuations.
We work with leading private practice law firms and the in-house counsel of Fortune 500 and middle-market companies. Our practice spans:
• Economic damages and lost profits
• Fraud investigations
• Business valuation
• Bankruptcy, insolvency, and fraudulent transfers
• Alter ego analysis
• Partnership disputes
• Intellectual property litigation
• Employment litigation
• Real estate and construction litigation
• Business interruption
• Personal injury damages
• Accounting malpractice
• Trust and probate litigation
• Defamation matters
Our full service offering includes traditional forensic accounting and expert witness testimony, internal investigations that can stand alone or serve as the foundation for litigation, and a distinctive Joint Retention Program in which we are engaged by both parties to resolve disputed financial issues efficiently.
Our team holds the credentials that matter in this practice (CPA, CFE, CIRA, CVA, MAFF, and ABV), and we are members of the AICPA, CalCPA, ACFE, AIRA, and NACVA.
As a boutique firm, our professionals work directly on the substantive issues that drive cases. We are small enough that every team member gets real ownership and direct access to the partners signing off on the work, and established enough to handle the highest stakes matters in the market.
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior Manager to take ownership of multiple forensic accounting engagements concurrently, lead a team of managers and senior accountants, and serve as a primary point of contact for client counsel. This is the most senior non-partner role at the firm and is positioned for a candidate on a leadership trajectory.
You will lead engagements with substantial autonomy, including scoping matters with counsel, directing analytical strategy, signing off on workpapers and reports, and supporting (or, over time, serving as) the testifying expert. You will also play a meaningful role in shaping how the firm operates: how we train and develop our people, how we run engagements, and how we grow our client relationships.
This role offers a clear path to partner for the right person. Engel & Engel is in a deliberate phase of growth, and the Senior Manager hire is central to where the firm goes over the next five to ten years.
What You’ll Do:
Engagement Ownership
• Lead multiple complex forensic accounting engagements simultaneously across damages, valuation, fraud investigation, solvency, and other practice areas
• Own engagement strategy, including scope, methodology, staffing, and deliverable design
• Review and sign off on economic damage models, business valuations, solvency analyses, fraud investigation workpapers, expert reports, and trial exhibits
• Serve as the primary point of contact with client counsel on assigned matters, including senior partners at major law firms and in-house GCs
• Support testifying experts through deposition prep and trial; serve as testifying expert on matters where you have established credentials and qualifications, or develop into that role over time
• Lead engagements under the firm’s Joint Retention Program and Internal Investigations practice as appropriate
Practice Leadership
• Manage and develop Managers, Senior Accountants, and Staff Accountants across your engagements
• Set and enforce technical and quality standards for the firm’s work product
• Lead recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding for new hires at the staff and senior levels
• Contribute to training programs, methodology documentation, and internal knowledge sharing
Client & Firm Growth
• Develop and expand client relationships, including with law firm partners, in-house counsel, and referral sources
• Lead proposal development and pricing for new engagements
• Represent the firm in professional organizations, CLE presentations, publications, and industry events
• Partner with firm leadership on strategic decisions affecting practice growth, hiring, and operations
Required Qualifications
• Active CPA license (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 8-12+ years of forensic accounting experience, with substantial time in a leadership capacity at a public accounting firm, litigation consulting firm, or comparable setting
• Demonstrated leadership track record leading multiple engagements simultaneously and managing teams of forensic accountants
• Deep technical breadth across the core forensic accounting disciplines: economic damages, business valuation, solvency, and fraud investigation
• Proven client presence, able to manage senior client relationships, lead difficult conversations with counsel, and represent expert work with credibility and clarity
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to write defensible expert reports and present financial analysis to non-financial audiences
• Advanced Excel skills; strong Word and PowerPoint; comfort with large data productions and analytics tools
• Work authorization in the United States. No visa sponsorship available for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
• One or more advanced credentials in addition to CPA: CFE, CIRA, CVA, MAFF, ABV, ASA
• Experience as a testifying expert, or substantial experience preparing testifying experts for deposition and trial
• Track record of business development, including generating new client relationships or expanding existing ones
• Experience across multiple practice areas, particularly economic damages, fraud investigations, business valuation, and real estate or construction matters
