Job Overview
The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the nursing operations to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care in accordance with organizational policies, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and professional nursing practices. Serves as a liaison between nursing staff, providers, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and leadership while fostering a collaborative, professional, and patient-centered environment.
Duties
- Provide direct supervision, leadership, and support to nursing staff.
- Oversee day-to-day nursing operations to ensure quality patient care, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor patient acuity levels, staffing assignments, workflow efficiency, and overall nursing operations.
- Ensure nursing staff perform duties within scope of practice and according to facility policies and procedures.
- Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, evidence-based nursing care consistent with individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor patient status, nursing interventions, and clinical documentation to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Assist with direct patient care when operationally necessary to support staffing and patient needs.
- Respond to medical emergencies, behavioral incidents, and crisis situations in accordance with facility protocols.
- Collaborate with providers, therapists, case management, admissions, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Ensure appropriate implementation of physician orders, medication administration practices, and nursing interventions.
- Monitor nursing practices to ensure adherence to established clinical standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor staffing ratios and patient census to ensure appropriate coverage for the nursing department. Adjust staffing assignments based on patient acuity, operational needs, and census.
- Monitor nursing supply inventory and communicate replenishment needs proactively.
- Support implementation of organizational initiatives, policies, and workflow improvements.
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure.
- Extensive nursing experience in acute care settings such as ICU, emergency medicine, or trauma centers; Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory or nurse management experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, CPT coding, and medical documentation standards.
- Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring dementia or memory care services.
- Ability to perform physical examinations, vital signs assessment, phlebotomy, IV insertion, sterile processing techniques, and specimen collection/processing.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with critical thinking abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities efficiently.
- Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are highly desirable. Pay: $75,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
