General Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain resident medical records and health information systems in accordance with federal and state regulations, as well as facility privacy policies and procedures.

Essential Duties

• Maintain and organize resident medical records, charts, and health information files.
• Retrieve, assemble, review, and file resident records manually and electronically.
• File nurses’ notes, assessments, lab reports, x-rays, correspondence, and other documentation into resident charts.
• Ensure incomplete charts are returned for corrections and completion.
• Maintain logs for admissions, discharges, and released medical information.
• Assist with scheduling assessments and coordinating documentation needs.
• Batch resident information into computer systems and retrieve demographic data as needed.
• Answer telephone inquiries regarding medical records functions.
• Protect confidential resident information and maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with audits, reports, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
• Previous medical records or healthcare experience preferred
• Ability to type at least 45 WPM preferred
• Computer proficiency required

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility
