University – Newport invites applications for the position of Instructor
of High Voltage Lineman Technology. This is a nine-month position on the
Newport campus. The Instructor of High Voltage Lineman Technology (HVLT)
reports to the Director of HVLT and is responsible for teaching HVLT
courses as appropriate to the two-year college level including classroom
and laboratory instruction. This role supports the College’s mission of
providing and ensuring quality educational programs for ASUN’s various
constituencies.rrESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESr Promotes,
develops, and assesses quality curriculum and coursework that align with
the college’s mission.r Conducts effective instructional sessions to
teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, or methods of
designated subjects.r Develops course curriculum, course handouts,
lectures, labs, and presentations, including reviewing and participating
in textbook selection process where appropriate.r Schedules, supervises,
debriefs, and evaluates students in observation and field experience,
and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.r
Supervises and monitors students’ use of equipment.r Supervises
independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or
other training.r Provides individualized instruction and tutorial or
remedial instruction.r Observes and evaluates students’ work to
determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for
improvement. Determine training needs of students.r Administers oral,
written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate
training effectiveness.r Participates in conferences, seminars, and
training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field of study
and integrate relevant information into training programs.r Maintains
accessibility to students via email, phone, or personal conferences.
Maintains course/student records such as student grades, attendance, and
training activity details in accordance with FERPA regulations and
submit records by established deadlines.r Keeps a flexible weekly
schedule that best facilitates student learning and access.r Remains
current in academic or program discipline, including maintaining
licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where
appropriate. Receives training or stay current in advances within the
field of study that promote student learning.r Supports the Director of
HVLT in cultivating and maintaining strong partnerships to ensure local
support and demand for graduates.rr Helps students identify and achieve
their educational goals through participating in the college’s advising
process, as well as providing incidental academic advice to students in
classes.r Attends commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the
faculty member’s discipline or program. Attends departmental,
divisional, and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required
by supervisor. Performs other academically-related duties as assigned by
instructor’s supervisor.r Posts and keeps office hours to facilitate
interaction with students, the college community, and the public.r
Assists the Director of HVLT in the development of program/department
budget requests as appropriate.r Assists the Director of HVLT in
maintaining indoor and outdoor laboratory and training facilities and
coordinates appropriate safety guidelines, training, and equipment in
conjunction with program faculty.r Assists Director of HVLT in
coordinating special events related to the appropriate programs.r Serves
on college-wide committees, special project teams, state andlocal
committees, and community service and civic committees as needed, and
acts as a professional and positive representative of the College.r
Promotes and supports concurrent partnerships with area high schools
(and career technical center).r Performs other duties as
assigned.rrMINUMUM QUALIFICATIONSrMinimum requirements for this position
include an Associate Degree or equivalent credentialing. Experience and
professional certification may be substituted for the degree
requirement. Proficiency involving first aid and experience and
knowledge of electrical circuits, pole climbing,rand safety procedures
are required. A pole climbing evaluation will be performed. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills are required.rrEDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCErPreferred qualifications include an associate degree or
appropriate industry certification(s) and/or three to five years’
experience in HVLT. Preference will be given to anyone who is a
certified journeyman lineman with previous rural electric cooperative
experience. Previousrrecruitment, administration, and college teaching
experience are also preferred.rrKNOWLEDGErKnowledge of work-related
subject area. The successful candidate will teach HVLT courses as
appropriate to the two-year college level including classroom and
