About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to lead the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, our sophisticated trading platform designed for experienced traders. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the development of a high-performance, low-latency trading interface that operates seamlessly across web and mobile platforms. As a technical leader, you will collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to define and execute a strategic roadmap, ensuring the platform’s reliability, scalability, and optimal performance. You will also be responsible for mentoring a growing team of engineers, driving engineering excellence, and implementing innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. This position is ideal for a seasoned engineer passionate about blockchain, trading infrastructure, and building cutting-edge consumer products that directly impact Coinbase’s core business.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on front-end frameworks and mobile environments
• Proven expertise in optimizing complex systems for rendering performance, network efficiency, and state management
• Strong leadership skills, including mentoring senior engineers and driving organizational improvements
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical challenges into actionable plans for stakeholders
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments (preferred)
• Familiarity with low latency trading systems (preferred)
• Knowledge of blockchain technologies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc. (preferred)
• Experience with decomposing monolithic architectures into microservices (preferred)
• Proficiency with technologies such as Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, and Postgres (preferred)
• Crypto-forward experience, including onchain activity interactions, ENS, dApps, or blockchain-based services (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to define and execute a technical roadmap for a reliable and scalable trading platform
• Lead technical initiatives to deliver low-latency interfaces across all platforms, ensuring high performance for experienced traders
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and career development support to engineering team members
• Anchor complex projects, ensuring adherence to high standards for code quality and system design
• Drive continuous performance improvements and infrastructure enhancements to support rapid growth
• Participate in architectural decisions, including decomposing monoliths into microservices and optimizing system architecture
• Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to incorporate innovative solutions
• Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve technical challenges and deliver robust trading features
