About the Role

We are seeking a passionate, collaborative, and motivated Staff Frontend Engineer – MTS 2 to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and evolving eBay Live, eBay’s newest live shopping experience and platform. Live shopping represents a natural extension of eBay’s ethos—highlighting unique items, collectibles, and fashion while enabling real-time interactions between buyers and sellers. This emerging trend is rapidly growing in the US and Europe and is well-established in APAC. Your expertise will help position eBay Live as a market leader in live shopping, contributing significantly to the global eBay platform. You will translate requirements into elegant software designs, develop scalable solutions, and guide technical decisions to ensure the delivery of high-quality features. Your role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting the platform’s reliability and performance in a 24/7 operational environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on one of the world’s largest ecommerce websites, shaping the future of online shopping experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience designing and developing front-end systems using JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js
• Proficiency in server-side rendering with open-source UI libraries such as Material UI or Angular Material
• Experience integrating with RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Strong knowledge of BEM-structured CSS, Webpack, and Express.js
• Contributions to common libraries and reusable components
• Experience in designing scalable, distributed, and high-availability systems
• Proven track record of leading complex software delivery and seamless backend integration

Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into efficient, maintainable, and scalable software designs
• Develop high-quality, responsive front-end features with a focus on performance and accessibility
• Guide and influence technical decisions across domain teams, ensuring best practices and standards
• Identify opportunities for productivity improvements and evangelize their adoption within the team
• Design flexible architectures that accommodate future changes and enhance engineering velocity
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver innovative solutions
• Implement evidence-centered design practices, ensuring features are testable and of high quality
• Manage project features by breaking them into manageable sub-tasks, resolving issues, and ensuring timely delivery
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and contribute to architecture decision records (ADRs)
• Identify system gaps and propose solutions to improve overall platform stability and performance
• Lead engineering support, release management, and on-call responsibilities for a 24/7 operational environment
