Hours: Full-time position

Comp Range: $75,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Development who is a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to fundraising and relationship management. In partnership with KCFAA leadership, including the CEO, Board of Directors, staff, and key volunteers, the Director of Development will lead the creation, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve annual and long-term revenue goals.

Lead Strategy & Development Operations

• Develop and strengthen internal development systems and processes, including gift processing and tracking, donor stewardship, grant reporting, prospect research, and pipeline management.
• Manage relationships and revenue strategies across individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundations, grants, and government funding sources.
• Identify, cultivate, and secure new funding opportunities that support KCFAA’s short- and long-term goals.
• Lead all grant-writing activities, including internal and outsourced grant development efforts.
• Oversee all aspects of the donor database (Salesforce), ensuring data integrity, accurate gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and reporting.
• Monitor fundraising performance and provide weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports to the CEO and Board of Directors as requested.
• Stay informed on nonprofit fundraising trends, donor engagement strategies, and emerging revenue opportunities to support sustainable organizational growth.
• Partner with staff and volunteers in the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns.
• Collaborate with Programming, Marketing, and Finance teams to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities.

Event Strategy & Execution

• Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of KCFAA’s fundraising and cultivation events, including galas, donor receptions, campaign events, and stewardship gatherings.
• Develop event goals, budgets, timelines, and success metrics in alignment with annual fundraising objectives.
• Oversee event logistics, vendor coordination, sponsorship integration, volunteer engagement and ticket management.
• Partner with Marketing, Programming, and Development staff to ensure events align with organizational branding, messaging, and mission impact.
• Identify opportunities to leverage events for donor acquisition, retention, and major gift cultivation.
• Evaluate event performance and provide post-event reporting, including revenue outcomes, engagement metrics, and recommendations for improvement.

Manage & Mentor

• Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management support for development staff.
• Partner with the CEO to develop and implement current and future fundraising strategies and clearly communicate goals and outcomes to leadership and stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with the Board of Directors and serve as staff liaison to the Fund Development, Ambassador, and Events Committees.
• Develop, manage, and monitor the annual revenue budget and recommend adjustments to meet fundraising objectives.
• Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, government agencies, and community stakeholders.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a related field; fundraising certification preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressive nonprofit fundraising and event management experience with a demonstrated record of success.
• Proven experience securing grants from government, foundation, and corporate sources preferred.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate organizational mission, impact, and vision to diverse audiences.
• Passion for arts education and community impact preferred.
• Experience with fundraising databases required; Salesforce experience strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with OneCause is a plus.
