Director of Accounting Full Time

Jamie Benway with Robert Half is looking for an experienced accounting leader to oversee financial operations for a growing medical device manufacturing organization in Portland, Oregon. This role will guide a well-established accounting team, strengthen reporting and controls, and support the business through its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate brings hands-on leadership experience in manufacturing environments and is comfortable building structure, improving processes, and partnering with operational leadership.

Responsibilities:

Lead the day-to-day accounting function, providing direction to accounting staff and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting across the organization.

Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including review of reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.

Develop and enhance internal accounting policies, procedures, and controls to improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency.

Partner with business leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis that informs operational and strategic decisions.

Manage manufacturing-related accounting activities, including cost accounting considerations, inventory oversight, and financial support for production operations.

Drive process improvements within the finance organization and help establish a more scalable accounting infrastructure for a growing business.

Support system and process implementation initiatives, including participation in ERP-related projects such as NetSuite adoption when applicable.

Collaborate with senior leadership and private equity stakeholders by delivering clear financial insights and maintaining strong reporting discipline.

Requirements – Proven leadership experience in accounting roles such as Controller, Accounting Manager, Director of Accounting, or similar positions with team oversight responsibilities.

Strong background in accounting within a manufacturing environment, with the ability to manage operationally complex financial activities.

Demonstrated experience overseeing month-end close and producing accurate financial reporting on a consistent basis.

Prior success leading and developing accounting teams while fostering accountability and process discipline.

Solid understanding of internal controls, financial procedures, and best practices for building efficient accounting operations.

Experience with ERP implementations or major accounting system enhancements is preferred.

Familiarity with NetSuite and experience working in private equity-backed businesses are preferred.

Ability to assess existing processes, introduce improvements, and work effectively with long-tenured teams in a changing environment.
