Position Summary:
Bright Mind Enrichment & Schooling (BME) is seeking a volunteer CPA to provide ongoing support, with the primary responsibility being the preparation and filing of IRS Form 990 or 990-EZ. In addition to annual filing, we are looking for someone who can serve as an ongoing accounting advisor to our Finance Team, including answering questions related to journal entries, classification of transactions, and nonprofit reporting standards. This is a long-term, collaborative role suited for a CPA who enjoys advising a growing grassroots nonprofit and working closely with a volunteer finance team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and/or review IRS Form 990 or 990-EZ, including related schedules, and ensure compliance with filing requirements and deadlines
- Provide guidance on nonprofit reporting requirements and accounting best practices
- Review financial statements and supporting schedules prepared by the Finance Team
- Advise on the proper classification and accounting treatment of revenue, expenses, grants, restricted funds, and related journal entries
Qualifications:
- Active CPA license (U.S.)
- Experience with nonprofit tax filings, specifically Form 990 and/or 990-EZ
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and reporting standards
- Ability to work collaboratively with a volunteer Finance Team
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating via email/video
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with small or volunteer-led nonprofits
- Familiarity with grant reporting and restricted funds
- Interest in nonprofit governance and compliance
Time Commitment:
- Ongoing, year-round engagement
- Light but consistent involvement, including a few online meetings per month and ad hoc email support
