About the Role
This is a mission-driven, hands-on position supporting young children (birth–5) with behavioral challenges, developmental delays, or disabilities in a Head Start classroom. You will work alongside teachers, families, and specialists to help every child participate, grow, and succeed.
This role is rewarding but demanding. You may encounter children who run, hit, bite, kick, or shut down. The right candidate stays calm, builds trust, and finds meaning in small daily victories. Bilingual Spanish speakers are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide individualized support to children with IEPs/IFSPs, implementing strengths-based behavioral and social-emotional plans
· Build trusting relationships with children by learning their triggers, calming strategies and motivators
· Assist with personal care needs including feeding, toileting, diapering, use of medical supports, and lifting/carrying children as needed
· Model and coach teachers in effective behavioral interventions, classroom management and inclusion strategies
· Collaborate with site supervisors, coordinators, specialists, and families to review progress and adjust support approaches
· Support referrals for children who may need further evaluation or services
· Maintain confidential records, complete monthly observations, and document in compliance with Head Start requirements
· Participate fully in classroom routines, outdoor play, socializations and field trips
· Support parent and family engagement as appropriate
Requirements and Qualifications
· Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Psychology, or related field
· Minimum 12 ECE units, including 3 units in Infant/Toddler development
· 1 year of experience with children birth–5, including children with disabilities and developmental delays
· Knowledge of early childhood development, social-emotional learning and developmentally appropriate practice
· Experience or background in behavior support, special education, ABA/RBT, and similar roles is a strong plus
Licenses, Certifications & Clearances
· Valid California driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for site travel
· Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
· LiveScan clearance, TB clearance, physical exam, and required immunizations
· Must meet and maintain all Head Start, state, and county licensing requirements

Full-Time • $23.88–$26.66/hr • 40 hrs/week
