About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Staff Backend Engineer to join our remote team with overlapping hours to our New York City headquarters (EST). In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and maintaining core backend systems that power our AI-native ERP platform. You will work closely with product teams to translate complex financial workflows into scalable, secure, and high-performance services. This is an intense, hands-on position that offers full ownership of features from conception to deployment, testing, and post-release support.

As a key contributor, you will design and build APIs, services, and infrastructure capable of handling real-time, business-critical accounting logic. You will also manage system complexity, perform data migrations, address scalability challenges, and integrate third-party tools. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and reliability of our platform, enabling finance teams around the world to operate with unprecedented automation and accuracy. Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, language agnostic
• Deep expertise in developing complex business logic products
• Proven experience deploying applications on AWS or similar cloud infrastructure
• Strong background in building and testing robust APIs
• Solid understanding of software development lifecycle, CI/CD pipelines, and production readiness
• Ability to manage complex, evolving systems with high reliability
• Proficiency in Python, with experience using modern web frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django (preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1+)
• Strong work ethic, high agency, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
• Curiosity and eagerness to learn new frameworks, tools, and solutions
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain core backend systems and services using Python
• Create and optimize APIs to support business-critical and real-time accounting functions
• Build and deploy production-ready features, including setting up CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
• Collaborate with product teams to translate complex financial workflows into scalable solutions
• Manage system complexity, including data migrations, scaling challenges, and edge cases
• Integrate third-party tools and external systems, proactively managing risk and exceptions
• Own the entire development lifecycle—from architecture and implementation to testing, monitoring, and maintenance
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing to ensure high-quality deliverables
• Continuously seek opportunities to improve system performance, security, and reliability
