Backend Engineer – Elite Hedge Fund Full Time

About The Role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to design and build the high-performance systems that power trading, risk, and research platforms at a leading hedge fund. You will work on low-latency services, scalable data pipelines, and resilient infrastructure that enable quantitative researchers, portfolio managers, and traders to operate in real time across global markets.

As a mid-level engineer with around 5 years of experience, you’ll own core backend services, collaborate with frontend and quantitative engineering teams, and continuously refine systems for speed, reliability, and scalability. This is a hands-on role where your code and design choices will directly influence investment outcomes.

What You’ll Do

• Build Core Services: Develop APIs, services, and data pipelines that support trading, research, and risk management workflows.
• Ensure Reliability & Scale: Design backend systems to handle high-throughput, low-latency workloads in real-time environments.
• Work with Data: Build and optimize systems for ingesting, storing, and serving large volumes of financial and market data.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with frontend engineers, quantitative researchers, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Maintain Code Quality: Write clean, testable, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews and best practices.
• Operational Ownership: Monitor, debug, and improve backend services to ensure uptime and performance under demanding conditions.

What We’re Looking For

• Professional Experience: 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in data-intensive or real-time systems.
• Languages: Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++; familiarity with Go or Rust is a plus.
• Databases: Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and distributed data stores (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis).
• Messaging & Streaming: Knowledge of Kafka, Pulsar, or other event-driven architectures.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
• APIs: Experience designing and scaling RESTful or gRPC APIs in production.
• Security: Understanding of authentication, encryption, and secure coding practices, especially in financial systems.
• Collaboration: Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with researchers, traders, and other engineers.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
