Automotive Electrical Rebuild Technician (Full-Time)

$18-$22 per hour, depending on experience
About Us:
Dons Auto Electric is a family-owned and operated automotive electrical repair shop serving the Providence Metropolitan Area and the broader New England region. We specialize in rebuilding alternators, starters, generators, DC motors, and installing and servicing Intoxalock and LifeSafer breathalyzer devices, including monthly recalibrations and occasional mobile installations. In 2020, we expanded our operations by acquiring General Armature.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Rebuilder to diagnose, rebuild, and test automotive and industrial electrical components. This position is primarily focused on rebuilding starters, with additional work on alternators, DC motors, and heavy-duty units.
This role is mostly independent and best suited for someone experienced, self-motivated, and comfortable managing their own workflow.
Saturday overtime is occasionally available.
Key Responsibilities:
-Rebuild starters, alternators, DC motors, and heavy-duty units
-Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues in units
-Test units before and after rebuild to ensure proper operation
-Occasionally answer phones and assist walk-in customers as needed
-Communicate clearly about job status, parts needs, and issues
-Perform occasional local deliveries (optional, with compensation)
-Assist with removal/installation of units when needed (preferred but not required)
Required Qualifications:
-Minimum 5 years of experience rebuilding starters, alternators, or similar components
-Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
-Reliable and consistent work ethic
-Ability to lift up to 80 lbs (for largest 50MT units)
Preferred Qualifications:
-Ability to install/deinstall starters, alternators, or related components
-Basic customer service skills for occasional interaction
-Valid drivers license (for optional deliveries)
