What’s The Role?

The role of an Accountant, Senior is to routinely prepare complex and specialized accounting and fiscal work including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with current GAAP, GASB and applicable FASB standards and pronouncements. The Accountant, Sr. may supervise junior level accountants, accounting technicians, or administrative staff including scheduling work plans and training staff. They will also assist during the annual auditing process by providing data, documentation, and reports to external auditors including preparing schedules, confirmation letters, audit work papers, financial statements, single audit reports, research, account analysis, or other work necessary for financial statements and reporting as requested by external auditors; as well as assist in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The Accountant, Sr. will assist the Accounting Manager and/or Finance Director in the performance of internal audits of various Town departments and operations; and consults and confers with department management regarding accounting, financial, and fiscal policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. They will provide assistance to departments and employees on accounting and financial systems management problems, the interpretation of accounting and financial management policies and procedures and in resolving accounting and financial systems problems. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Here is what you need to be considered for the position of Accountant, Senior:

• Requires a Bachelors degree with major course work in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience involving advanced accounting functions, office administration, and specific experience in designated areas of assignment with municipal government accounting experience desirable; OR
• any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
