Job Description: Day Program Support Professional (DPSP) I

Position Summary

The DPSP will work with individuals with varying degrees of developmental disabilities. DPSPs assist individuals to become more integrated in their communities by maximizing the client’s strengths, interests, and abilities. The aim is for the client to direct their own activities that create a meaningful life, including contributing to the community and developing relationships. Support may occur in a variety of settings. It may include providing personal care, assisting with daily living activities, providing vocational and academic training, teaching/developing skills, advocating with the individual, helping with communication and self-expression, and ultimately supporting the individual in meeting his or her own goals.

• Support clients to achieve personal outcomes that characterize a high quality of life.
• Listen carefully and communicate respectfully and clearly with the clients you support.
• Support clients to choose, understand, and learn new skills.
• Understand, follow through, and document support plans, goals, activities, progress, etc.
• Support clients with daily living skills and personal support needs.
• Facilitate activities that provide people with social capital and connections to the community.
• Demonstrate fairness.
• Assist clients in planning and structuring activities.
• Bring your own skills, strengths, and interests to support people’s activities.
• Support clients to exercise their rights and responsibilities in all areas of their lives.
• Engage in respectful communication.
• Use person-first or preferred language when appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality and support privacy at all times.
• Talk with clients and include them in discussions about their lives.
• Support clients to have optimal health and well-being.
• Understand and follow supports for optimal health.
• Monitor medical conditions thoroughly and consistently.
• Monitor dietary concerns thoroughly and consistently.
• Ensure that clients are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Complete all needed reporting and documentation.
• Provide safeguards and appropriately support challenging situations.
• Follow any outlined financial supports.
• Support individuals with positive behavioral techniques to avoid challenging situations and promote respect and dignity.
• Be a safe and conscientious driver.
• Know the proper techniques and be able to respond to emergencies such as accidents, fires, tornadoes, or other situations.
• Positively represent the organization.
• Uphold agency values.
• Understand and follow through with all agency systems and protocols.
• Follow agency policies and procedures.
• Communicate positively and clearly with your supervisor and coworkers.
• Meet established timelines and deadlines.
• Maintain satisfactory attendance to work shifts, staff meetings, and other assigned agency functions/trainings.
• Complete needed trainings by established deadlines.
• Maximize and responsibly utilize agency and community resources.
• Complete duties assigned by supervisor or designee.

• Primary criteria for success are resident and employee affinity. Success is measured by resident satisfaction and employee advocacy. Success criteria include:
• Ensure that all Federal, State, Local, ICF/IID, and Innovation Waiver Service standards and regulations are adhered to and followed.
• Follow all policies and procedures.
• Actively pursue professional development through education via seminars and training conferences.
• Maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, TB Skin Test, OSHA, and others as required.
• May participate in amended work schedule.

Experience and Education Required

• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma
• Valid driver’s license

Skills Required

Each DPSP I is expected to demonstrate minimum competence in reliability, job knowledge, policies and procedures, and program implementation.

• Ability to work in home-like settings.
• Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) with all levels of personnel at all times.
• Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including the ability to perform NCI+ interventions; bending; stooping; lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.; occasionally lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 lbs.; reaching; and standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Independently and consistently completes specific job duties.
• Follows protocol for program documentation
• Provides a clean, neat, and organized work environment and home.
• Maintain certification in applicable trainings, including but not limited to CPR and First Aid, NCI+, Bloodborne Pathogens, TB Skin Test, and complete competency-based training in areas identified by the organization

Pay: $16.00 – $17.50 per hour
