Position Summary
This position will serve as an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator for the Child and Adolescent Anxiety and Mood Disorders Program (CHAAMP), situated within the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry. The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator assists with the execution of study protocols, including screening and recruiting study participants, conducting study visits, and collecting, entering, and reviewing study data.
The Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator will support one or more newly funded research projects focused on youth and young adult mental health, including: (1) a community-engaged planning project to improve youth mental health in Eastern NC, and (2) a multi-method longitudinal study examining generative AI use and cognitive mechanisms in psychosis risk. Depending on project needs and candidate strengths, the coordinator may support one or both projects.
The planning project aims to partner with community members to identify local mental health needs, priorities, and culturally responsive strategies to support youth and families. Key activities include coordinating a community advisory board and conducting focus groups with stakeholders such as youth, caregivers, educators, coaches, faith leaders, and community representatives. Findings will inform the development of future interventions grounded in community priorities and lived experience.
The generative AI study examines how young adults with psychosis or psychotic-like experiences use AI tools for mental health-related purposes and how these interactions relate to symptoms, coping, and functioning over time. The project uses a multi-method longitudinal design, including remote recruitment, semi-structured interviews, and ecological momentary assessment (EMA), with the goal of informing future digital mental health interventions.
The Child and Adolescent Anxiety and Mood Disorders Program (CHAAMP), supported by The Foundation of Hope and housed within the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry, is a multidisciplinary research program focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in youth. CHAAMP’s mission is to transform how we predict, prevent, and intervene when children and adolescents experience mental health challenges. Through innovative research and strong community partnerships, CHAAMP seeks to improve access to effective, evidence-based care and address the growing youth mental health crisis.
