JOB SUMMARY:
The person will work on a project that is sponsored by the Center for RegiThonal and Rural Connected Communities – CR2C2. The project focuses on rural road safety. He will be working on a hardware/sofware application to sense hazards, warn the driver, and broadcast warnings to other drivers.
JOB DUTIES:
50% – Essential – Application development using Python and YOLOV8 Object Detection Library. The application will include computer vision processing of both digital/infrared and thermal camera imagery.
15% – Essential – Prototype hardware assembly and field testing of a roadside unit. This includes cameras, Nvidia Orin Jetson processor, Cohda C2X devices, solar power supply including inverter, case, and pole.
20% – Essential – Prototype hardware assembly and field testing of an on-board unit. This includes cameras, Nvidia Orin Nano processors, Cohda C2X devices, and vehicle mounting hardware.
15% – Essential – Software development for the C2X communications infrastructure.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – 1st Bachelor’s Degree – Computer science & experience with YOLOV, small edge devices such as Nvidia Jetson Orin and Nano

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
80% – Sit (stationary position) for prolonged period
20% – Use hands or feet to operate or handle machinery, equipment, etc

Compensation Information
Expected Pay Range: $21.00 – $24.00 per hour
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
