Biology Lab Technician Full Time NEW

Job Description:

• Performs laboratory testing included but not limited to waived CLIA tests, environmental tests, rabies tests on various animals, surveillance and/or epidemiology tests – Note: Rabies testing will require pre-exposure vaccination and immunity verification before testing. Preference may be given to candidates who have already received Rabies pre-exposure vaccination.
• Identifies methods and prepares samples for appropriate testing methods, prepares special stains, solutions, reagents, and media, interprets results and reports findings, reports both normal and abnormal results, performs and documents daily quality control procedures, and assists in maintaining inventory of laboratory reagents and supplies.
• Receives clinical and environmental samples from providers and distributes for testing, accessions into the laboratory following procedures, and documents any issues with samples and notifies the supervisor.
• Performs instrument maintenance and calibration procedures throughout the lab and documents procedures performed.
• Performs data entry for specimens submitted on paper submission forms.
• Assists lab staff answering phone calls, receiving and reviewing specimen submission forms, and contacts providers regarding sample submission issues
• Complies with all accreditations, state, and federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to but not limited to: safety policies, drug and alcohol testing, bloodborne pathogens, chemical safety.

Minimum qualifications:

• Associate’s degree, or equivalent, in science, medical technician, healthcare, or veterinary technician.
