SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) – Data & Analytics

Technical Focus & Experience

• SQL Proficiency: Proficient-level SQL skills to design complex test scenarios and scripts that validate business tables used for critical reporting
• dbt (data build tool): Knowledgeable of dbt business logic, including the ability to design and execute tests within dbt and distinguish between full refresh and incremental load strategies
• Tooling: Knowledgeable in designing and managing SQL tests within VS Code and executing dbt commands for validation
• Azure DevOps: Strong familiarity with Azure DevOps for task management, version control, and pipeline integration
• Test Design: Proven ability to create comprehensive Test Plans specifically for data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, data quality, lineage, and performance
• Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in CS or Engineering, with at least 2 years of experience in an SDET or Data Engineering role focused on automated data validatio
• Drive best practices for Data CI/CD, ensuring automated SQL tests are integrated into the deployment pipeline
• Lead functional and non-functional data testing strategies (e.g., data volume, latency, and accuracy) with minimal oversight
• Identify opportunities to automate manual data audits to deliver high-quality reporting faster

Operational/Troubleshooting

• Interpret data quality metrics and dbt test logs to identify and resolve upstream data issue
• Relate production reporting discrepancies to specific SQL transformations or data ingestion workflow
• Actively contribute to the creation of data-specific alerts (e.g., freshness, schema changes, and null-rate anomalies)

Competency

• Possess a solid grasp of the business logic within data models and a cursory knowledge of how data flows from source systems to end-user reports
• Investigate and implement emerging data-testing tools (e.g., Great Expectations, dbt-expectations) to improve automation coverage
• Independently investigate automation failures in dbt runs and provide corrective SQL or logic recommendations
