About The Role

The Staff Frontend Engineer for the Client Data & Networking Platform team will play a pivotal role in shaping the data layer of Airbnb’s client technology stack. This team manages critical components such as the GraphQL runtime, client networking infrastructure, and developer tooling that are integral to nearly every product at Airbnb. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in web application development, particularly with TypeScript, GraphQL, and REST APIs. You will collaborate closely with product teams, infrastructure groups, and cross-platform engineers to design, develop, and optimize foundational solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and scalability of Airbnb’s frontend ecosystem. Your work will directly influence how engineers build and ship features, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for both developers and end-users. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical strategy, mentor engineers, and contribute to innovative tooling and infrastructure that support Airbnb’s global platform.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience in software development with a focus on frontend engineering.
• Extensive experience with TypeScript in developing complex web applications.
• Proficiency in designing and integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Experience working within a Platform, Infrastructure, or Developer Productivity team in a medium to large engineering organization.
• Strong understanding of client networking, performance optimization, caching strategies, client storage solutions, and asynchronous programming.
• Proven experience mentoring and growing engineering teams, promoting best practices in web client development.
• Ability to influence engineering strategy and prioritize technical initiatives across large organizations.
• Interest in developing internal tooling and CLI applications; experience with AI solutions is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset focused on cross-team communication and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Airbnb product teams to understand their challenges, pilot solutions, and promote adoption of standardized tooling and frameworks.
• Design, develop, and maintain foundational, cross-platform solutions in collaboration with Android and iOS engineers.
• Work closely with infrastructure teams and support product foundation teams to extend platform capabilities.
• Participate in all phases of software development, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and on-call support.
• Mentor junior engineers, foster best practices, and lead technical discussions to shape the frontend engineering strategy.
• Contribute to the development of internal tools, CLI applications, and innovative AI-driven solutions to enhance developer productivity.
• Ensure high performance, reliability, and security standards are maintained across all frontend components.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve Airbnb’s frontend infrastructure.
